Testimonials

I retired from regular work in 2000 and started walking 3 kilometers a day. But in 2005, I had a health scare, for which I required a small operation. However, because at the time I had a blood pressure reading of 186/216, and my cholesterol reading was 12, the surgeon was not prepared to operate.

I had heard about a young man by the name of Adam Wiseman, who had only recently started a business as a personal trainer and I decided to talk to him about my lack of fitness.

After an hour chat, Adam convinced me that he could help with both my health and fitness. Since then Adam and his staff have me in the best physical condition I have ever been in.

I am now completing an 8-12k run twice a week, one strength session and also one group cardio session per week. My blood pressure has been reduced to 120/80 and my cholesterol reading is a low 1.8 and all this has been achieved through regular exercise and healthy eating.

Under my doctor’s and Adam’s guidance, I am perhaps the fittest 68 year old in Devonport. I have run the past four Burnie and Launceston 10’s, breaking my previous years time on each occasion. I have brought my time down from an initial one hour and 20 seconds to 50 minutes and 54 seconds.

Many thanks to Adam and all the team at Essential Personal Training.

Coming  from a physical outdoor career working  as a Drilling Operator for 20 years and moving into a Managers position in 2005, where there is far less physical activity involved, it didn’t take long to gain weight and the unhealthy side of life to kick in.

I was given the opportunity in the form of a gift voucher from my partner to attend an introductory session with Jared from EPT.  I decided to continue with regular sessions for both cardio & strengthening  sessions.

With encouragement and support from both EPT & my family, 12 months later I quit smoking and continued attending EPT.  Now, 14 months later I have been able to maintain my weight and recently started losing a few kilo’s.
Without the commitment  to regular sessions with EPT I feel sure that I would have still been smoking, eating unhealthy and still gaining weight.

I owe EPT and my family a big thanks for their encouragement and continued support.
To be honest when enduring both cardio and strengthening  it leaves me feeling sensational and refreshed.

Before I joined EPT I didn’t think I had enough time to exercise.  I thought it would be too hard, I thought I had no will power, thought the trainers would laugh at me being so overweight.  However I quickly found a part of me that I didn’t think existed.

EPT are so profession, I walked into my first session so nervous weighing 162kg’s, everyone was so friendly and supportive and interested in what I wanted to achieve and not once did I feel like I was being judged.  Jared made me feel so comfortable, I knew from that moment that I was going to achieve my goal and that I could trust Jared to help me.

The weight loss is not the only part of my journey now, having goals like the Burnie 10 & Half Marathon this year have become a big focus.  Also, I have met new people that have become lifelong friends that I wouldn’t have met if I hadn’t started at EPT.

I have no hesitation on recommending EPT, especially people that want to lose weight it really helps having support and a person that keeps you obligated.

Thanks to EPT I have changed my life & the life of my family.  I have the up most respect for my trainer Jared.  He believed in me that I could lose my weight when many people didn’t.  He is a great support, role model and friend to and I can’t thank him enough.

I will always continue to go to EPT because even though I have lost 73kg’s (from 162kg’s – 89kg’s), in a way my journey has only just begun.

I walked into EPT early May this year (2011) desperately seeking out some help. I had been on a “health kick” and was doing ok, but was struggling without much knowledge or support. Emotionally I was up and down and really needed to find some work/life balance to look after myself better. I committed to 3 PT sessions a week and focused on good nutrition and hydration. Very quickly I started to feel better in every way imaginable. I added 3 group sessions into each week and now I’m completely hooked! I also swim twice a week and fit in as many long walks as possible, with one rest day.

5 months on I’ve lost over 30kg, feel AWESOME and absolutely loving life.
I just set a new rowing PB of 1339m in 5 minutes…. (my very first effort was 850m)

Training with EPT has given me improved strength, cardio fitness, co-ordination, flexibility, and the ability to better deal with stress or a 12 hour day at work. I no longer get aching feet or a sore back and I can treat myself and those around me with renewed respect and kindness. I have endless energy and jump out of bed each morning knowing anything is possible.

I have a brand new life and I owe it all to EPT.

My first introduction to Glynn was when his parents brought him to the Reeconian Rowing Club, where his father rowed and I was Club Treasurer.

The next time I saw Glynn was November 2010 when I presented myself to EPT for some personal training that was a birthday present from my daughters. Now 12 months later I am still there.

I have found Glynn’s approach shows confidence and a skilled level of communication that relaxes one right at the start of a session.
Then the work starts and at all times Glynn is right behind you pushing you with words of encouragement to help you achieve what he knows you are capable of. His little comments like “another like that and you’ve got it “or “your thrashing it today” gives you that little lift and gets you across the line.

Glynn shows an interest in your every day life and at time in between sessions he catches up with what you have done through the week or he advises what you should do for the next week so that it fits in with your training session or will help to improve you in one of the segments of your training.

Although I think of Glynn as a mate, someone you can have fun with or share a joke with, when it comes to the training side of the business he is a hard but fair task master and is committed to you totally during the segment you’re undertaking.

Glynn has shown me some latitude with fitting in sessions on odd days for me due to a medical problem with my wife and for this I will be always grateful as it has enabled me to have my weekly sessions.
Although I only have a half hour session each week I am met at the door by a happy smiling Glynn and the session seems to fly and I am farewelled at the door in the same cheerful manner.

If ever a person was born to fill a role, Glynn was born to be a personal trainer.

Transitioning from university into my teaching career I found myself feeling unfit and lacking in energy. I had heard of Janelle Jacobson’s success through EPT and was inspired by her achievements.
I was a bit nervous about going to a personal trainer as I thought I would feel self-conscious about how little exercise I could do but with EPT’s professionalism and comfortable atmosphere it certainly wasn’t a worry. I can honestly say that it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.
Janelle’s encouragement and support has allowed me to increase my fitness and wellbeing greatly. She designed a program for me that was both fun and challenging which was exactly what wanted. I am now about to run in the Burnie Ten, which is certainly something I couldn’t have done this time last year.
I would highly recommend Essential Personal Training to anybody who needs motivation or wants to start a fitness program and doesn’t know where to start.

I first started at EPT in August 2010. I was introduced to my very first Personal Trainer, a young, friendly and fit guy called Glynn Bound. Initially feeling nervous about being overweight, unfit and lacking confidence in my ability to get fit again Glynn discussed what my weight loss and fitness goals were and helped me set a plan towards them.

After this initial session I walked out feeling like a change had already started. Glynn gave me confidence in myself that I could achieve my goals and that he would do everything he could to make sure it happened.

Every session Glynn and I discuss my food and other exercise. The next day following each session Glynn calls me to see how I pulled up. It’s nice to be able to talk about how you feel after each workout and it keeps you focused on your goals.

After only 6 weeks my weight had started to drop and another personal trainer, Anna Johnson, asked (challenged) me to consider running in the Burnie Ten. I really didn’t think I was ready but I asked Glynn and he said he would put me through a quick but intense program to get me to the start line.

In just over 2 weeks I ran my first (of many) 10km events in Burnie in a time of 59 mins. Without Glynn’s encouragement and training I could never have achieved what I did. My first PB!!

With Glynn’s assistance every step of the way I achieved my weight loss goal 1 month earlier than I first set and this continued losing 15 kg in 5 months and still keeping it off.

My newfound love for fitness has taken time, persistence and commitment to achieve and at times there have been set backs. Glynn has helped me through these physical setbacks to get me fitter and stronger than before and I couldn’t have done this without his assistance.

I always look forward to my next personal training session with Glynn – it’s one of the best things I now do every week!

The team at Essential Personal Training, especially my trainer Anna, have helped me not only physically transform, as I am fitter, healthier and stronger than ever, but mentally and emotionally transform as well, from a shy and unconfident person, to the fun loving and outgoing person that I am now!
Anna is not only my trainer, she has been my taxi, she is my emotional support, she is my cheer squad, she is my inspiration and now she is one of my most treasured friends. She has supported me from my initial weight of 83.4kgs to my current weight of 66.8kgs and will be the first person to see me stand on the scales when I reach my goal weight of 55kgs.
Anna has helped me to believe in myself, and to achieve what I previously thought was impossible. She has shown me that the commitment to hard work and dedication certainly pays off, as I have just completed my first half marathon (21.1 kms) in Melbourne, and with her assistance I am planning to run the full Melbourne Marathon next year!
I can never show Anna how thankful I am to her, as she has completely changed my life! I cannot believe how I have changed from a couch potato to an exercise addict! The best decision I ever made was to become Anna’s client. I owe all my happiness and success to her hard work and dedication.
I currently do a weights and a cardio PT session with Anna, and 3-4 group sessions weekly. I look forward to all of my sessions, as all the EPT trainers and clients, are extremely supportive, and go out of their way to make each individual feel extremely valued and are ready to give advice no matter the time or day.
Thank you to Anna and the entire EPT team, for your friendships and making me happy again!

Anna Kershaw.

I first had the privilege of meeting Anna Johnson in September 2010, when I joined EPT to commence exercising and lose weight. Anna greeted me warmly and was extremely interested in hearing about my previous exercise history, my existing lifestyle and my future goals.
Anna was enthusiastic from the start and believed my goals would be achieved within the 12 month period I had allocated. She asked me what my favourite form of exercise was, which I replied, “I’d love to learn to box, but I don’t run.” We discussed various training options which would help me achieve my goals, and at the end of our discussion Anna said passionately “I’ll get you running.”
I commenced my weekly sessions with Anna, which consisted of a combination of cardio and weight training, together with helpful discussions about nutrition and ways to manage challenges during the week ahead.
Anna’s support and encouragement during and after each session enabled me to gain confidence in my ability to exercise. Each week, through the carefully planned program Anna provided, my weight decreased and my fitness increased.
To enhance my fitness, Anna suggested I participate in EPT’s group sessions. I was convinced I needed to be fitter and slimmer before successfully participating. However, with Anna’s reassurance I joined group training, and as she suggested this helped fast track my goals. This was also a wonderful opportunity to witness Anna’s ability to co-ordinate group training sessions and experience the enthusiasm and support she shares with all EPT clients. Boxing became my favourite exercise and through Anna’s expertise I developed and strengthened my technique.
Thanks to Anna, running remains my greatest achievement. When I commenced with Anna, I struggled to run 1km on the treadmill. At that time I was amazed to learn Anna was training to compete in the 2010 Melbourne Marathon. I remember thinking what an inspiration she is, leading by example, and from that moment my respect and admiration for Anna and her achievements grew.
Within 12 months, through Anna’s encouragementI went from someone who didn’t run to completing my first Melbourne half marathon in October 2011 and this is testament of the inspiration, support and belief of my Personal Trainer.
I am eternally grateful to have met Anna and for her dedication in helping me improve my life through fitness.I achieved my original goals, losing 20 kilos and feeling fitter and stronger than ever before, plus goals I’d never dreamt would be possible. I look forward to training with Anna every week and now fitness comes first!

Coach, motivator, educator, knowledgeable, mentor, inspirational, truly dedicated, always interested, friend, striving to be the best she can be, these are just some of the words I could use to describe Janelle.
I have been working with Janelle for just over 3 months and already I can see the difference in my body, my attitude and my whole outlook on life. For some time I had been thinking what I could to improve my fitness and life expectancy, but hated the thought of gyms where groups of people stare and point at people who are not a size 8. I was never sure of what a personal trainer was fully until I met Janelle. There was no pointing of fear of self-consciousness as Janelle’s professionalism makes you feel at ease.
It doesn’t matter if it takes a long time getting to your goals; the point is to have a destination. Janelle is my tour guide on my destination to good health and fitness.
